Autumn Trail Walking

On Wednesday, October 23rd, 2019, I had an appointment for a foot treatment, and afterwards I headed out to do some PhotoWalking. Originally I had intended to go to St. Jacobs and walk along the Conestoga River there, but then I changed my mind and went to Elmira instead.

But let me not get ahead of myself, as I first stopped at Conestoga Mall in Waterloo and visited the Apple Store. Knowing myself as well as I do, I realized that I might come home with a lot of pictures to be edited, and since I had no photo editing program anymore that I had, I needed to get something that would be on a par or even better. I was informed that there is a great photo editing app that is free and works great.

Having decided to go to Elmira, I then had to decide where I would focus my walk on and then headed from the bus toward a trail I took in the spring, called the Lions Ring Trail. The total length of the walk from start to finish was about 1 km. Although it is almost the end of the fall season, I found a lot of beauty to capture and to be able to share with you.

After I left Aesthetics by Jayne, and was walking up Union Street
East to catch a bus on King Street, I saw this colourful scene.

Once I got off the bus and headed toward the entrance of the trail I saw a lot of colour and started taking photos of it.

The trees have a lot of autumn colour and we have a beautiful sky as a backdrop.

There are some logs that have been cut out of the bush this past summer.
There was a horse and covered buggy coming up the street.
This is a beautiful shot of some of the colour I saw.

Here is the entrance to the Lions Ring Trail from across Whippoorwill Drive at Grey Owl Drive. And the next couple of pictures were taken to either side before I crossed Whippoorwill Drive.

Once I was across Whippoorwill Drive I took a few more photos before heading onto the trail.

Straight ahead into the bush where the Lions Ring Trail goes.

And off I go into a fairyland of autumn colours and check out where the trail goes.

I just could not get over the beauty and solitude, even in the midst of a busy town that I discovered when I took the trail to the left when I entered it.
Looking back out to the street where I had come to the entrance that is visible here.
Stumps are something I have often photographed and this was not different, especially as some of the trees have been removed from this bush.
Down the trail I saw a Cat that was sitting idle, but when I got closer it had been used earlier this summer.

There was a lot of ground cover already and there is still a lot more to come down, may even be down by now.

I could see the fairly fresh cut on the bottom of this tree, and it was colourful too.

When I saw this stump at a distance I was wishing I had my camera with me so I could zoom in and capture it, but my phone worked quite nicely.

Here is a closer picture of the Cat.
A memorial bench in the park/bush.

Fallen logs, more recently cut trees, and a planting in the midst of it all.

I used this particular photo for a screensaver on my phone and
showed it to someone on the bus and she said it looks like fairyland.

As so often happens, housing is encroaching on the beautiful part of the bush.

Ground cover of many colours.

Looking up to all the beauty above me.

Ground cover and beauty with the sun shining in.

As I was travelling through this bush on the trail I had no idea where I would end up.

I was beginning to see vehicles through the trees and realized that I was coming to a street of some kind. Because I had not eaten much I was beginning to feel hungry. It was also beginning to dawn on me that I need to use a washroom and I realized that Swiss Chalet was not too far from where I was.

And then I could see the street, or boulevard, that ran beside the bush. I still had no idea where I was at this point. The only thing I knew for sure was that I was in Elmira.

The entrance from South Parkwood Blvd.

And the beauty I found when I got out on the north side of the boulevard
was just as great as the bush had been.

Pictures of the entrance from the Boulevard.

A closeup of the colour to my right as I came out of the entrance.

The beauty as seen from across the boulevard.

Somebody is really ready for halloween and they also had some rip stones in the yard.

I recognized the building down the street and then I had some idea where I was.
Across the boulevard from me is a street sign and I had to figure out where I was.
Definitely a new part of the town that I had never been in before.
I did recognize the name of the cross street here as Pintail.

Although I didn't know it when I took this picture, there is a park behind those mailboxes.

The way I found out about the park was by this sign.
I would love to come back to the trail in the winter when there is snow.
