First Real Snow

We have had bits of snow for some days and yesterday it was more prominent. As it seemed to be staying on the trees and not falling off outside my apartment I got dressed warmly and went out here to get some snow pictures. Things had looked so dull last Thursday with the leaves that were no longer on the trees. You will notice that yesterday's pictures hardly even look like where I was 5 days before.

The first few photos are taken from inside my apartment. This was what I saw when I first woke up.

The snow had to have been sticky as it stayed on the trees till well into the early afternoon.

It looks like the squirrels are being fed as this one has a nut in its paws.

I love the beauty of the snow on the leaves.

When I went outside, this was one of the beauties I saw. The branches here are actually covered with ice.

Along the driveway there are a cluster of evergreens. Here is a shot of them with the beautiful sky that was there when I started out.

Here are some more shots from closer up of the trees.

As is evident in this photo and many more, the leaves are not all off the trees yet, and as a result it makes it much more colourful when taking photos out there.

The wind had not yet dislodged all the snow on the leaves yet.

These grasses had not deterred the snow from falling right through them.

When I looked at this tree it reminded me that it is one of the first trees I inspect for blossoms in the spring. This time it was laden with snow instead.

The evergreens and twigs were covered in snow and the sunlight transformed it into a winter wonderland view.

Some of the trees that are still quite full of leaves.

These leaves have not fallen, but were loaded with snow.

This evergreen had snow frosting on its branches.

This looked like a frosty wonderland.

I love the beauty of the oak tree against the evergreens that are right next to it.

More snowy leaves.

Grasses are so laden with snow that they are almost blocking the pathway.

Snow was also loaded on the picnic table.

This would not be near as nice as it is with the snow on it.

I was tempted to continue on and go into Idlewood Park, but the wind was just too cold and even though I was wearing gloves, I decided to cut that idea out for that trip.

The sky is starting to cloud over a bit more, and with that strong wind it was getting less comfortable to be out in.

The snow laden burdock was right in front of me when I took this shot.

And the snow covered goldenrod was also there.

I took a few shots looking up.

The sky was getting a bit grey and the wind was dismantling the beautiful scenery that had been snow covered when I came out a short while before.

The gazebo looks so forlorn in the middle of the garden with all the plants cut down.

I don't know why they have this generator sitting here as it doesn't look beautiful at all, but in order to capture the snow on the bushes and trees over that side of the garden I had to include it in too.

The other day when I was out here this was a colourful flower bed. This time it was partially covered in snow.

This is a closeup of the bushes in the above shot.

Here I was taking a shortcut across the driveway to get a different aspect of the evergreens that are hidden behind the drive shed here.

I wish the sun had been out when I took this one as the colour would have been more visible.

And then I came to another part of the garden that I don't often go into.

From that garden I was also able to capture the gazebo and surrounding area from a different angle.

And then I was able to see much more of the evergreen line that runs along the one side of the property.

There was a tree that was bare of leaves but it had icicles on it, although they are not showing very well here.

The ice was a bit more evident here.

And then I was heading around toward home and to the side of the building here that was somewhat protected from the strong winds.

And from here I can see the building that I live in. I stayed up closer to the building where I was at to protect me from the wind.

One more glance at the garden where the gazebo is and I'm off to make tracks for home.
